Owning a Windows Phone running the latest or older version with Twitter client installed on it now gets an upgrade. Since Twitter client launched for Windows phone handsets several features were missing from the application, amongst lacking was push notifications, which was seriously absent from the client even though Microsoft implemented push across the platform via Toast quite some time ago. Today, we have noticed that the WP Twitter client has finally received an update to support push and live tile notification.

Twitter for Windows Phone has just been updated to version 1.5. Finally available in the Windows Phone Marketplace officially grants the app the ability to notify you on certain Twitter interactions. The options include Mentions, Favorited tweets, Retweets, Direct Messages, and New Followers.

The reason why it took so long to push the official client to include notifications, we aren’t aware of, but now its been made done. So, you can opt to receive notifications only from people you follow or from everyone. Or you can turn them off if they going too annoying. While the Live Tile for the app doesn’t show a notification counter, but it does flip over to reveal any recent interactions such as mentions.

It’s too late now, if you’re an Windows Phone user, then head over to the Marketplace to grab the new upgraded Twitter client right now. Enjoy!
