Microsoft and Nokia have yet to announce the promised Windows Phone 8’s Portico language upgrade to all its newly launched Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820, and it looks like the smartphones are now receiving another update that improves the phone’s features even advanced. Last year the U.S. and Canadian models of Nokia Windows Phone 8 devices “Lumia 920” received the platform’s first over-the-air (OTA) update named “Portico.” The upgrade upped the stability of the device and apparently repaired some issues that were affecting the camera. Like when some pictures captured in daylight were looking fuzzy.
Outside the U.S. and Canada, the Portico update isn’t expected for another two weeks. But now we got news that a Nokia Lumia 920 purhased from Dutch retailer KPN, shipped along with Portico update included out of the box. The OS version number, 8.0.10211.204, matches the version number from the latest Windows Phone 8 update.
The folks at WMPoweruser reports the update is only available in Canada for the moment and we’re not sure if if meant for Lumia 920 units in other countries as well. According to MonWindowsPhone forums, owners of Lumia 920 devices purchased via Rogers have started to receive another update post-Portico.
What is Portico update for Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 handsets? This update is said to included quality improvements for languages, though no other details are provided. There’s a high chance this update is related to Canadian French language, which is why it might not be available in other countries.
Rumored that Nokia was ready to start releasing the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 with the latest updated OS pre-installed, and now it looks like they have already in touch.
