The most popular and the best video streaming site on the web, YouTube will be in the top, most smartphone and desktop owners require a decent app for viewing the pretty latest and most entertaining content. For Windows Phone 7 a front end app for YouTube, the MetroTube was discontinued at the beginning of 2012, due to some issues in its development. But, it dramatically returned back again to the marketplace. Details after this jump!
MetroTube for Windows Phone used to be among the most popular for Microsoft’s ecosystem, unfortunately pulled from the Marketplace several months ago by the developer Lazyworm due to some issues which, at the time, couldn’t guarantee the application’s future though.
Today, LazyWorm’s MetroTube app is coming back soon as a free app happy news for those of you who are big fans of this WP7 MetroTube app.
However the company, according to this blog post, announced the rebirth of MetroTube, and of course it has been able to obtain official support for the native app – the major reason why it was removed in the first place – it will simply make do and continue support for the Windows Phone app.
The company explained that they faced a challenge with YouTube’s API when trying to obtain high-quality videos from the Google-owned site. It hasn’t been ascertained whether YouTube owner Google, Windows Phone creator Microsoft, or a combination of the two giants played a part in MetroTube’s original demise, but Lazyworm’s reintroduction of the app comes attached with the battle cry toward its user base of “justifying the need for Google or Microsoft to show us a little more support.”
“We don’t want to see the project that has consumed a year and half of our lives go to waste like this,” said the developers, “and so we’ve decided to re-launch MetroTube for free.”
LazyWorm tried to get support in an official capacity from both Microsoft and Google, but just couldn’t work it out, so they originally decided to pull what was widely considered to be the best YouTube app out there.
However not yet available, the app has been published already, and should begin to appear over at the Marketplace in the next few hours.
Although the MetroTube is pretty good app for Windows Phone users, rather don’t have a massive effect on the app to the point, if it’s dropped from the Marketplace once again, or even though overt issues surrounding the app are resolved. Comparing with YouTube apps, it’s one of the best, and given the current lack of apps available at the Marketplace, versus Apple App Store and Google Play, WP users need as many simple ones as they can get their hands-on to grab.
MetroTube has passed Marketplace certification and should be available within 24-48 hours. Stay tuned with us so that we can update more once it become available!
