Google recently introduced the next version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, at their I/O 2012 conference in San Francisco. The newer mobile operating system was initially be available for Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and Xoom devices. Updates to other device manufacturers will come afterwords.
The developers from Android’s community has already started working on porting the unofficial JB 4.1 ROMs on Nexus devices, now set for HTC One X. Jelly Bean announced with great new features such as an improve notification bars, offline voice typing, amazing new Google Search functionality, as well as performance improvements thanks to Project Butter.
One of the Android developer has achieved a bootable Jelly Bean on HTC’s flagship smartphone, the One X.
The news comes from XDA Developers in the form of a thread in which developer who by the name ‘tgascoigne‘ released his SDK port of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the One X.
The ROM is based on the /system image and uploaded by another developer who received a Galaxy Nexus preloaded with Jelly Bean for free at Google I/O. Within 24 hours, the image was transformed into a bootable ROM for the HTC One X.
However, the leaked ROM is not 100% functional, because its not a stable one. Wi-Fi, Audio, Camera and “probably more” things do not work. So, its not suitable for use as daily driver. If you can flash it, you can, or the best part is waiting for HTC’s official update to Jelly Bean for the One X which should take a few months.
Take it serious: Anyone don’t recommend that you go ahead and flash the ROM on your One X, unless you’re really in to do so. Note it down!
The Android’s 4.1 JB brings the best features “Voice Search and Google Now” for a device like HTC’s One X. The new OS also gets a faster, smoother UI, enabled by “Project Butter.”
If you or those of you interested in checking out Jelly Bean’s new features may try it out for the sake of it. Details and a download link for the ROM can be found over on the official thread on XDA.
